Know the Basics!

Losing weight seems anything but simple! With all of the trendy diet plans and new workout fads it is easy to become confused. The good news is that the meat and potatoes of weight loss have not changed over the years. It all boils down to Calories In and Calories Out. Too many Calories In, and you will gain weight. Extra Calories Out and you will lose it. Keep in mind that 3,500 calories equals one pound and every itty bitty calorie counts!

There are two ways to attack this “Extra Calories Out” goal. You can burn more calories while exercising or you can burn more calories while you AREN’T exercising…

Let me explain….So the first method, you are going to spend countless hours at the gym, most likely on cardio equipment watching the calories tick away on the monitor, waiting for whatever magical calorie number you gave yourself to finally appear. Sounds fun right? (not so much) But with the second method, you are going to have a very detailed plan to build the maximum amount of muscle in the shortest amount of time possible. This is going to raise your metabolism, burn more calories while you aren’t working out. That sounds a little more appealing, right? Thought so.

Did you know that one pound of muscle burns 50 calories a day? And a pound of fat only burns 5 calories a day? Just imagine if you were to put 10 lbs of muscle on your body. You would burn an extra 500 calories a day, that’s 3500 a week! One pound of fat per week, lost while not working out. That’s right; I’m talking about burning 3500 calories a week while you’re NOT at the gym!

Build more muscle, burn more fat. Know the basics!
